Inspired by The DOJO's "Butterfly Cap Mural," designed by Sempai Kim Christian & made by The DOJO students, six year-old Marguerite Ziek decided to create her own--along with the help of her Girl Scout Daisy Troop. For months, she would admire the intricate details of The DOJO mural every afternoon while her brother had his karate classes. During the winter of 2015, armed with her family and friends, Marguerite gathered and collected bottle caps and plastic caps leading up to Earth Day 2015...
They Washed Bottle Caps...
They Dried Plastic Caps...
They collected 5,000+ caps from November 2014 through February 2015. A Troop Dad purchased, primed, and sealed the 4x8 board. The Girl Scout Troop glued the caps onto the painted design before the caps were drilled onto the board. The board now hangs in Yanticaw Park, Nutley, NJ near the Orechio Sports Complex.
MEANWHILE...
In Kearny, NJ, also inspired by The DOJO's Butterfly Mural, Desiree Mills collected caps in addition to the donated extra caps from the original project. With the help of her students, they created more inspiring murals...
