Lessons this week at TheDOJO located in Rutherford NJ.

The Martial Arts
Teaching children the art of jujitsu (Jujutsu, Jui-Jitsu, Juijitsu same game different name!) and Judo, Karate, Grappling, Some think of it as mixed martial arts or MMA.  We keep the traditional customs of bowing, uniforms, etiquette, Japanese and asian customs; keeping it in it’s traditional sense.

Why?
The value though is for children to learn how to protect themselves from most any situation they find themselves in.  Physically they would need to know how to protect themselves from being wrestled to the ground so they learn judo and jujutsu.  If someone tries to punch, push, kick or take a swing at them they need to know how to block and strike like in karate or how to dodge, slip cover up and evade like in boxing.

How Not to Fight
Also children will need to know how to de-escalate a confrontation by not fighting such as setting verbal boundaries and using assertive communication rather than aggressive communication which could unintentionally escalate a fight or confrontation or even passive communication which could make one an easy target for bullies.  Click Here and Read my blog post here on teaching children The 3 Colors of Awareness for EZ Defense Non-Violent Conflict Resolution for Children.

Additionally the children students of TheDOJO are taught by Sensei Dan Rominski how to defend against a stranger or a scenario of Child Abduction see a video here.
This is some of the relevant self-defense for toady’s world here TheDOJO with Sensei Dan Rominski.  We also cover other topics such as stranger danger, prevention and awareness for childhood sexual abuse, anger management, healthy eating and accident prevention.  Project Based Leadership Training teaches children how to be a leader and not a follow, great for any parent worried about peer pressure.
