Teaching children about compassion, empathy and kindness through TheDOJO Food Drive.
TheDOJO Food Drive is a form of Project Based Leadership Training for children, teens and adults. At TheDOJO we Unleash Human Potential through teaching timeless, self-evident principles; a form of principle centered leadership. This week our life lessons included the concept of compassion, empathy and kindness. What those words mean, and how do take action and live it. A food drive for our local food pantry which helps feed local families, that’s all that’s a teachable moment for moment.
It’s an everyday sight, children and their families walk into TheDOJO to attend class lugging packed bags of groceries. They are so proud that they can make a difference. Little Joseph yesterday brought in 4 bags of Groceries. “Joe, how did you generate all of these donations?” i asked. Little joe replied, “By asking people in my family.” His grandfather further explained how they reached out to family members who graciously supported the project by donating cans of food, school supplies and personal hygiene products.
Parent’s, Childhood is the training ground for later on adult behavior, that’s why we teach punches and kicks in the martial arts but go beyond that to teach the character to control oneself and think about others. Get involved with TheDOJO Food Drive or better yet, try out our lessons. We offer a free month to all new students to try it out.
