Why fun is not fun...at first.

Why fun is not fun...at first
Sensei Dan Rominski of TheDOJO

A trim waste line is fun, getting good grades is fun, being successful is fun.  What's not fun, is getting there.

The "not so fun" or "hard work" part of something which precedes the victory, is a process not everyone is willing to go through.  Martial arts is exactly that, its hard work.  It's not fun at first, but the victory which comes after is most enjoyable.

Our adult students do not always enjoy a tough workout, but they do enjoy the trim waste line it gives them.

Our children students don't always enjoy standing at attention, following directions or the hundredth repetition of a technique.  Yet, they enjoy the hug from their parents for having the discipline and focus which earns them a good report card.  They enjoy the confidence of backing down a bully.  They enjoy the fun of accomplishing, progressing and evolving.

Mastering discipline, focus, perseverance, confidence, respect, self-control, fitness and self-defense doesn't happen over night, it happens over time.

This is why martial arts is not for everyone.  Those who do it only when it's fun, soon realize it's work and they move on.

Martial arts is reserved for a community of people who understand about sacrifice, which is giving up something good for something better.  They choose not to do the easy thing and take on the hard thing.  Why?  Because that is the type of person they are.  They appreciate that at first it's not fun, it's work and the rewards come later.  In fact...all champions know this.
